Book Review: The Book of the King

Sorry friends, the first time I get back on in months, and I have to torture you with a book review. I have recently found the wonder that is Facebook, and have not had time for both xanga and the aforementioned site. Please forgive me, as I am  going to give you a review of a book, :(|) and that book is......

The Book of the King
The Wormling books I

by Chris Fabry and Jerry B. Jenkins

In this fantastically fabricated world, Jerry B. Jenkins and Chris Fabry have ultimately captivated me and my imagination, giving me a hero that I can relate to. A shy, bookwormish boy named Owen. He lives in a bookstore (my dream) run by his father.  But when a mysterious voice saves his life, he wanders back to his home in a daze to find mysterious voices and  dark strangers. But the plot thickens when a mysterious stranger gives Owen a strange, wonderful book (it wasn't as strange as it seems...).  Join Owen on his quest for answers as he wanders a mysterious world and finds things he could not have imagined. All in all, this book really moved me.  I couldn't put it down.  This world safe for Christians to explore, as Jerry B. Jenkins and Chris Fabry are trustworthy men, having worked on masterpieces such as the Left Behind Series and Adventures in Odyssey.  There is no magic, or sorcery, so parents can rest easy about those subjects.  And they actually contain  Bible verses.  Well, they illustrate them differently.  Here is an example: If you listen to my words and are careful to follow them, you will find life.  When those who seek your life are close, when the evil one wants to devour you, cling to my words and you will be delivered.  It is then followed by this: Two worlds exist as well as the invisible. Courage is needed if the two are to become one. To breach the portal and begin the Union, the Mucker leads as the Wormling reads.  Intake for both must be continuous to avoid suffocation and death.  The one who attempts great things shall be rewarded.  It contains lots of biblical applications, too.  There is an enemy dragon, a search for a saviour, a holy book, and many more similarities.

Super-Natural: 10
Comments: In the book, The Dragon uses things like Demon flyers, and things of that sort, while The King uses Angels to do his bidding.  It introduces only supernatural things that are from the Bible.

Fun:10
Comments: This book is fun because the chapters are concise and the writing is superb.

Story: 10
Comments: Since a lot of the story is biblically based, the stories seem familiar, yet still intriguing.  Kids will love how they think they know what's coming, only to be surprised.

Writing:10
Comments: This may be a vocabulary stretcher for younger ones, but the writers ease into the hard words.

Morals: 9
Comments: Owen does disobey his father at one point.

Kid-safe: 9
Comments: This is because littler ones may be frightened by some of the book. I would suggest ages 10+.

Magic: 10
Comments: There is no magic, only the power the book gives. The King gave the book power for the Wormling to use, and Nicodemus the Angel also uses the power The King gives. The Wormling holds out the book when he wants to use it, and says, "The King commands you".

Bad influence: 8
Comments: Owen does some pretty crazy stunts, like jumping off the side of a building to escape from bullies, and he also kills many Scythe Flyers and Demon Vipers. It graphically describes the heads getting slashed off, or things of that sort. "When the squealing and ruckus had ceased, Owen made his way down the incline to where Dreadwart lay, bloody and headless."

Innuendo:10
Comments: Owen does dream about a girl he likes, but nothing inappropriate, and they also go on a date. I don't know if some parents disapprove of dating, but there is no kissing, or stuff like that. "Is this a kissing book?" --The boy from Princess Bride

U gotta read it: 10
Comments: This book in a word, captivating.  It is vital that you get all the books at once for your immediate...um...read-a-tion. You will want to get your hands on the rest of the series once you read the first one.  The first time I read it, I was trying to go to the library every day (that's not unusual).

Ok, this is Nintendo school!! I'm here to teach you about the basic characters and games in Nintendo history.
Class is in session.

This is Mario. if you don't know anything about him, your current video game I.Q. is 0.
in his former life, he was a plumber with his brother, Luigi, fighting monsters in the sewers.
then he got a letter from Princess Peach. Then he set off to rescue her from Bowser,
(see below) and was succesful. from then on his mission in life was to repeatedly rescue Peach.
Luigi went on to win the lottery and buy a mansion full of ghosts and save Mario from the Boo King.

In the middle is Luigi, Mario's fraidy-cat brother. to the left is
Wario, Mario's unknown, fat brother.

the tall guy in purple is Waluigi the recently-discovered lost brother of the bunch.
the guy with the polka dots is toad(yes, as in Toadstool) one of the most devoted
servants to Princess  Peach in the Mushroom Kingdom.

This is Bowser. the Koopa King. Mario's ArchEnemy. Sending Boos(see below)
and Goombas after Mario just wasn't enough to stop him from rescuing Peach again and  again.
and by the way, he isn't that big as in the picture.

this is Donkey Kong. after being burned kicked and shoved into the abyss of the sewers, Donkey Kong(otherwise known as DK) starred in a generation of his own games such as, Donkey Kong 64,
Diddy Kong racing, Donkey Konga.

This is Yoshi. his tribe of air walking dinosaurs raised Mario. with the odd
ability to grab things with his long, sticky tongue and lay them in an egg, Yoshi
started a new series of games: Yoshi's Story,Yoshi's Island, Baby Yoshi 2, and Yoshi's Cookie

this is a Boo. typical ghost minion. has invincibility to everything, except light.

But that is just the Mario generation!!!

here is more:

this is Kirby the star warrior. Not much, is he?
well, any way, this little puffball can inhale other beings and copy they're ability.
he can also inflate himself with air to float. he started his own series of games: Kirby
in Dreamland, Kirby Air Ride, Kirby Squeak Squad, Kirby and the Canvas Curse, Kirby
Nightmare in Dreamland,(Huff, Huff) Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. Whew!

This guy is King DeDeDe (DeeDeeDeeeeee....) the mischevous yet partly bad Ruler of Dreamland with
a giant hammer. Kirby's Nemesis.

This is Pit. He made his Debut in Kid Icarus as a high flyin' , arrow flingin' angel.
Granted, this guy does kind of look like a girl, but that's just the way he looks.

This is Samus Aran. She  made her first apperance in  Metroid.
Her Latest addition to the series, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, did exceptionally well in it's reviews,
with dark clones, foul beasts, and A-bombs.

this is Link. he is almost as famous as Mario. He has played an important role in many
games, including a guest apperance in Soul Caliber II.in his own line of games, he is known for
puzzle-solving, monster killing, and never ever-ever-ever smooching the princess, Zelda, that he always rescues from Ganondorf, the Black Magician of the Desert of the North.

This is Pikachu.  Probably the whole emblem of  Poke'mon.
First appeared in: poke'mon red. In a nutshell, he is a rodent who can generate sparks of electricity
and when angry, sparks fly from it's cheeks.

the little monkey in red is Diddy Kong. nephew and Donkey Kong wannabe,(see above)
Diddy owns a jetpack, shoots peanuts from giant pistols, and eats red bananas.

This is Sonic. a hedgehog with Sonic Speed. below him is
Amy , his  hammer toting, self proclaimed girlfriend.

this is Knuckles. an echidna with super strength. He first appeared
as an enemy to Sonic, but when he realized that Sonic was with the
good guys, he's been with Sonic ever since. His violent outbursts of
Rage often force Sonic to subdue him once in a while, though.

and this is Tails. (hence the Two tails) Sonic's most devoted friend.
His mutated tails give him the ability to fly, and his creative thinking
and inventive spirit give him inventions out of Star Trek!!!

And Thats it for Nintendo school!!
thanks for reading!!!!
